Recently the firm has drawn harsh criticism from the media for engaging in "back-dating stock options," which has now overshadowed the previous scandal involving unethical "market timing" practices. These cases are still under investigation and could lead to indictments. The weight of these developing troubles has brought him enormous stress, as he is now considering early retirement. His banner year was 1999, which made him a multi-millionaire. Since then his portfolio has been down 70%.
