What's up with Pat Robertson's reckless comments that the U.S. should take out the President of Venezuela? (8/25/05)

respondent quote
UNKNOWN SKEPTIC: It was pretty foolish of him to comment that the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, should be assassinated by U.S. operatives. The United States gets a lot of its oil from Venezuela. I know that Chavez is a Bush critic and does not support Bush's quagmire in Iraq, but apparently even Bush was embarrassed by the comment. Remember, Robertson is the one who started the Christian Coalition. The guy is not only trying to make up his own religion, now he's trying to run foreign policy. The FCC should ban Robertson and all the other wannabe dictator talk show hosts.
CANDY: I've been a Pat Robertson fan since I was very young. I'm very impressed by how he has spread the word about Christianity to America, which for awhile was looking like it might fall to the communists during the Clinton years. I think he should keep doing his TV show "700 Club" and keep saying whatever he pleases. After all, he is, in fact representing the word of God. I've sent Pat Robertson thousands of dollars because I know he'll let God know that I'm working hard on buying my way into heaven.
JENNIFER: Good grief, get that freak's show off the air immediately. He sounds more dangerous than Bush. Anyone who tries to show off that much testosterone, obviously hasn't had sex in a long, long time.
BROKER BOB: The comment may have helped boost oil prices up further this week. After all, we did hit another record high. So, you can't say that it hurt oil investors, like myself. I'm not complaining.
SKULL MADISON: Leave the foreign policy comments to Bush and the thinking to Cheney and the oil industry. Robertson has done his part by adding to the Republican base. The way he did that was by fooling - or rather talking people into joining his religious crusade. Don't get me wrong, I wanna take each country one by one, but not all at once.
FATHER SULLIVAN: Pat Robertson has made his apology and he has moved on, as we all should do. The Lord makes it clear in the Ten Commandments that thou shall not kill. However, the Lord has also let us know, through intermediaries such as Pat Robertson, that America has a special duty to be the policeman of the world. But first we must combine church and state so that there are no lingering legal questions. That's why his "700 Club" show should continue, to stay the course and keep spreading the word.
COLLEGE STUDENT: I'm surprised Bush didn't back the Robertson comment, being that Bush has been working so hard at trying to start World War III. I guess someone must have told him that Venezuela is in the Western Hemisphere, and that it's best to contain all the war games on the other side of the world.
GURU DION: Man, was that the stupidest thing ever said on television or what? It's stupider than Bush saying he has never made a mistake.
