TANGENT SUNSET

COMMON CREEPS by Alex Cosper

What's your reaction to the Supreme Court's decision that government can seize people's property? (6/24/05)

respondent quote
RECEPTIONIST: I don't own property anyway. I rent. I feel sorry for people who own property because all that money that went to a house could have been spent on more fun stuff like DVDs, CDs and going out to dinner every night.
UNKNOWN SKEPTIC: It just falls right in line with what the fascists have already been doing. Slowly but sure as hell they are stripping away all of out constitutional rights. In this case, they are allowing local government to seize property with respect to local planning decisions. The next step, of course, is to just raid everyone's bank account - and pretend it was due to some hacker they can't catch.
JENNIFER: Well, there goes the Second Amendment. It seems like they told themselves they spent way too much time on trying to destroy the First Amendment, that they finally just decided to jump to the next one. At least we can feel relieved that they're only halfway good at taking away our rights.
SKULL MADISON: Great ruling. One of the best decisions they've made so far, besides making sure Bush got in. I'll feel a lot better, though, once we make the Patriot Act permanent. We need to revise the entire Constitution. Parts of it seem out of date. In fact, we should just replace the whole Constitution with the Patriot Act, that way there's no question that no one has any rights.
WORKER JOE: Oh man, who cares about that? The headline should be about how the San Antonio Spurs yanked the NBA title away from the Detroit Pistons.
BRUTUS JONES: No one even trespasses on my property, so it's not like I even worry about it. The reason I get no trespassers is because people know how to read. The sign warns that trespassers will be shot. The great thing about this ruling is it applies to everyone else but me.
