Do you think the Governator should close California's border with Mexico? (4/22/05)

respondent quote
LEFT GUARD LARRY: No man, they don't need to close no borders. Arnold just needs to learn the language. You have to remember that fool ain't from America. I support him because he understands the need for steroids in the sports world, so I'm willing to give him slack on other stuff.
SKULL MADISON: Yes, close all borders to the United States. This is something I've been saying for years. Then I have to remind myself that Hitler didn't rise overnight. Fascism takes time to nurture, and I'm willing to stick it out for that very reason.
WORKER JOE: No, I think Arnold was just messed up when he said that. I think he even apologized later for it. You gotta give the guy a break, he's only been governor for a little over a year. It takes longer than a year to learn about government when you're starting out with zero knowledge.
COLLEGE STUDENT: It's just another pathetic example of how California is stuck with a governor that wants to turn the state into a giant concentration camp. At least it's become nothing more than comedy since everything he's tried to destroy has been blocked. He's gotta face re-election next year probably against Rob Reiner. I've seen him on old episodes of All in the Family and he was sayin' some strong stuff even back then.
COUNSELOR JENNINGS: I do not think it would be in the best interests of Mexico or the United States to completely shut the border. In a free society, borders are merely checkpoints and not barriers. I suspect the governor's withdrawal of his strange statement came after advisors informed him that California isn't going to fall to fascism as quickly as the rest of the country.
REAGAN DEMOCRAT: I can see closing the border as being a good thing. I mean, trying to make it be legal to be an illegal alien doesn't make any sense. The white population is starting to drop in California, so there needs to be some kind of balance engineered by the government. After all, America is a white country founded by white people. I don't mean to keep stressing the white thing, but that's basically what this issue is really all about.
BOUNCER MIKE: Hey, if the Governator says close the border, let's do it. He's our governor and we have to trust his judgment. He's been in tough situations - mostly in movies - so he knows how to deal with problems. I say let's try it for awhile and if it doesn't work we can reopen the border. I just wish people would give fascism a chance.
