Who do you think should get to run the World Bank? (3/29/05)

respondent quote
UNKNOWN SKEPTIC: It's obvious what's going on here. Bush wants an unlimited budget to pay off his buddies in the defense and oil industries, so he thinks he can nominate one of his own henchmen. It won't work, though. The Republican Party will divide into two factions: traditional fiscal conservatives and a minority of Bush wackers. Consequently, none of the Bush agenda will go forward.
MR. BIG BIZ: I would expect Paul Wolfowitz to get the job. I think he has made great strides with the liberal obstructionists to agree to put a certain amount of the budget toward poverty. But let's not get too sidetracked by the liberal agenda. Wolfowitz understands the need for increased military spending and I am sure he will act accordingly.
JENNIFER: Wow, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a World Bank until this Wolfowitz thing came up. It's amazing that this isn't a top story in the news, but then again, I gave up on mainstream media a long time ago. How does someone from the Department of Defense get to be nominated as President of the World Bank? Doesn't Bush even know what each department does?
BROKER BOB: I think Wolfowitz would do extremely well for defense and energy stocks. I would definitely begin to accumulate more shares in weapons manufacturing companies. Basically he would loan more money to America to basically spend whatever amount on whoever the government wants to spend money with. Just think - an unlimited budget for everything this country has always wanted to do. Of course, some other country would end up owning us but...
SKULL MADISON: There is no controversy regarding Wolfowitz. He's the man that's been chosen for the job - and now we need to move forward quickly. We need to blanket the globe with weapons and accelerate the effort to create the biggest world war ever. The biggest war ever means the biggest profits ever. When all is said and done - the United States will be the last country standing. By virtue of victory, we shall be awarded the spoils.
WORKER JOE: I think Bono should run the World Bank. I guess now that he's friends with Bush, a certain amount would go to the Bush people, but at least a certain amount would go to the starving kids of Africa.
COLLEGE STUDENT: The Bush-Bono connection is eery. The fact that Bono would even have a conversation on the phone with Wolfowitz is disturbing. I used to love U2 - then I went underground. I can't believe U2 has become the soundtrack to the New World Order. Anyway, the World Bank should not be run by Bono or Wolfowitz. I think someone who has proven they know how to make and manage money without smoke and mirrors should get the job. How 'bout Michael Moore?
MADAM OF THE PLANETS: I think the World Bank should be run by objective outsiders of the banking system. Who are these objective outsiders? Well, let's just say there are those who put higher priorities ahead of money. Alien communities have long been known to manage survival systems without the use of money, for money is merely an illusion - a value that is but a figment of the imagination.
