RECEPTIONIST: Ah shux. I love Lil' Kim. Why does the government keep picking on just the
stars that really matter? |
COOL LEE: That's a damn shame. First they try to nail R. Kelly, then Michael and now they got Lil' Kim. I can't believe this world anymore. All she was doing was covering for a friend - that shouldn't be a crime. That's what people do in the real world is look after their community. I never keep up with any news, but now this story's got me
fired up. Put me on the witness stand. I'll testify. |
DJ YOYO JO-Z: It's a sad day for the rap community. Lil' Kim brought so much good feel to the music scene. I can't do one gig wit out at leas' playin' three or four of the songs, you know what I mean? Maybe this is a message to gangs - 'specially to my homeboys on both sides - we're all brothas and sistas and we gotta get back to the word of Ice T and the real meaning of the street. That it's about music - not gangs. Now I'm worried about the shootout last week between 50 Cent and the Game at the same radio station in New York. Man, learn from Snoop Dog and P. Diddy, it's about dope rhymes, not crimes. Man, these are our leaders - they already put the word out - listen to what THEY are saying. |
JENNIFER: I don't follow rap - but I'm not putting it down. Sorry that I never heard of that artist before. I guess when radio stations started breaking up the mainstream, so that labels could control how they market music on the radio, that's when hip hop split away from rock and every genre became its own radio format. It would be nice to know more about it, but somehow I got hooked into alternative rock and then public radio and now Air America. |
LEFT GUARD LARRY: This ain't good for the rap scene, man. There still needs to be a way to save Lil' Kim's career. I know she already has a new CD comin' out this year - but isn't there any way to set up a recording studio in prison? |
BROKER BOB: Too bad she doesn't run a corporation. As Martha Stewart proved, when a female CEO gets convicted, her stock goes through the roof! Of course, Martha's stock has declined recently, so eventually the
market corrects itself. You know - I know that rap is popular - but I myself am unfamiliar with this particular artist.
It apparently wasn't bigger news than what went on in the market today, so I can't say that I feel I'm out of the loop. |
WORKER JOE: My girlfriend listens to hip hop but I like stations that play Metallica and
Led Zeppelin back to back all day long. So I can't comment on artists I never heard of - which is just about everyone
except Metallica and Led Zeppelin. |
COLLEGE STUDENT: I like some hip hop I've heard but more the underground stuff on college stations. I've seen Lil' Kim's name on the pop charts since the nineties - so that's probably why I haven't heard much of her music. It's not that I don't like rap - it's just that I don't like listening to super-commercial predictable mainstream radio stations that all sound like they're owned by Clear Channel. |
WOMEN'S RIGHTS ACTIVIST: We support you Kim. Hold your head up and be strong. I wrote several letters to Martha before her conviction, pleading her to just come clean, but apparently she took a different course.
I know I defended her all along, but the truth is - she should have listened to me and now I want you to listen to me.
Remember these words, Kim: the truth shall set you free. |
DAVE THE ATTORNEY: I'm hoping by now that most people get the hint that lying under oath is worse than a confession. And the fact is, had the defendant cooperated with authorities in the beginning - this whole thing would have played out much differently. However, I must say that the defense failed to hit any home runs with their alarmingly lackluster presentation. That's why, Kim, if you need to file an appeal, I can bring you better results.
