TANGENT SUNSET

COMMON CREEPS by Alex Cosper

Do you think it was necessary for Barbara Boxer to object to the Ohio electoral vote? (1/6/05)

respondent quote
GW BULLSH: It actually made no sense. Bush won the election on November 2nd and John Kerry conceded on November 3rd. It was even confirmed today by the Electoral College. End of story. We need to move on to real issues now and not let the lunatics and Hollywood-inspired conspiracy theories hamper our determination to bring justice to the terrorists. We also need to concentrate on helping the tsunami victims in Indonesia. Luckily, both houses are now stacked with Republicans, preventing the obstructionists from standing in the way of the bigger picture.
UNKNOWN SKEPTIC: I give Barbara a lot of credit for being the only U.S. Senator to raise the objection of the obvious fraudulent vote count in Ohio. Obviously, the state's Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell, just wants us to forget about the computer glitches, long lines of people who never got to vote, and disparities between the number of registered voters and actual votes cast in certain precincts. I'm glad that it's now a part of the historic record, instead of last time in which Bush totally stole the election without much protest. Democracy, regardless of what it has been reduced to by these right wing thugs, still lives on.
COOL LEE: I'm sorry, what now? Barbara who? I don't follow politics, so I guess I can't comment. But I do know that Bush won the election by a landslide and that for the second time in a row, the Democrats have been sore losers about the thing. Then they come up with wack stories that I just don't have time for. I'd rather watch sitcoms than keep up with politics. The truth is, I could care less who's President, because it doesn't really affect my life. It's always gonna be a free country no matter who's President, so we might as well live with Bush for four more years.
JENNIFER: Let's just say I'm impressed by Barbara and disgusted with all the other senators. Didn't any of these people watch Fahrenheit: 911? Hello? I guess they all missed the point of the movie that our government is completely screwed up and unwilling to stand up for the people. The fact that she was all alone in the Senate is just more proof that Democrats aren't gonna be the ones to save this country. And it sure isn't gonna be the Republicans. We need to put together a new party. Let's call it the Rock and Roll Party and base it on song lyrics. That's really our last hope.
LEFT GUARD LARRY: I watched the whole thing unfold on CSPAN. The real thanks goes to Ohio Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who actually set up the objection that was followed through by Boxer. You gotta understand that this was a racial issue that proves the white supremacists who control Ohio wasn't ever gonna let the black vote count anyway. They purposely made black people stand in long lines by not having enough voting machines in black neighborhoods. Once again, it all came down to racism. One thing I've learned is in the political arena, the Klan wins every time, but if any of you Rush Limbaugh fools wanna go up against me in football, I'll whoop all ya asses.
SKULL MADISON: She failed and we are a better country because of it. It's just like the election of 1876 when Hayes beat Tilden. That election was a bigger mess than this one. Thankfully, the co-founder of Skull and Bones was Attorney General at that time, good ol' Alphonso Taft, who set up the committee that ensured Hayes (R-Ohio) won, even though Tilden got more votes. That's how we ended Reconstruction and turned the South into what it is today. Hey, the confederacy lives on, brother, that's America. Remember, Taft's son was President and one of his descendants is now governor of Ohio, as the Order has been preserved. So let history decide what's best, not elections. Other than that, I have no more tolerance for left wing lunatics like Boxer trying to hijack our Democracy.
COLLEGE STUDENT: I think the objection was necessary to preserve Democracy. Too much suspicious stuff went down in Ohio. What's worse than that, is that Kerry doesn't seem to even care. Obviously, a bunch of fake votes were added to the Bush column through electronic manipulation. They made it so that when Kerry reached a certain level, it started subtracting votes from Kerry and awarded those votes to Bush - or something like that. The whole thing stinks worse than the 2000 election, but at least we can all cling to a thread of hope that Democracy still exists in this country thanks to Barbara Boxer.
BRUTUS JONES: Come on, forget about it. The election was decided two months ago. For the Democrats to suddenly throw in this last second glitch in history just to try to mess with Bush, calls for disciplinary action. This was an act of treason, which should not be taken lightly. I suggest a one year prison sentence for that anti-gun nut Boxer, who needs to figure out in a hurry that Bush is President and he can throw anyone he wants in jail, especially obstructionists who oppose his mandate.
JOHN SKERRY: Well, I think we should not try to rock the boat. In fact, I wish the Democrats would just drop the whole issue about the election. Bush won Ohio and the popular vote by something like three million votes. We must come together as a nation and put our differences aside. We need to be soft on the Bush crime syndicate, because that's America's choice for moral leadership, and quite frankly, it's mine too. I may have said negative things about Bush during the campaign but now I've come full circle and am back to being a proud sponsor of the New World Order.
REAGAN DEMOCRAT: I wish Barbara hadn't have done that. I think that was the final nail in the Democratic Party's coffin. Nobody cares about how the votes are counted, just so long as the one who deserves to win gets the most votes. No one wants to hear about Ohio or the election anymore. Bush won because he's a war hero and a Christian and this is a Christian nation that likes a good war - especially one in which we are the aggressors. I think it was Jesus who said something like "let America decide the wars." Bush just seemed stronger on the war, whereas Kerry seemed like a draft dodger who was afraid to finish the job.
GURU DION: It's over. The whole Democratic Party is over. The Boxer thing was too little too late, plus it amounted to nothing more than another defeat for the left wing. They should have challenged the Ohio vote two months ago while they had a chance before the certification and the actual meeting of the electors. This action today made no sense because not enough media covered it for it to even matter. The Democrats can't get anything done because they're either too busy impersonating Republicans or taking on issues guaranteed to be drowned out by the fascist echo chamber that has become the voice of this country around the world.
