Was it a good idea to hand over control back to Iraq? (6/30/04)

respondent quote
RECEPTIONIST: Of course. After seeing Fahrenheit 911 I think we just need to get out of Iraq completely. That is what we're doing isn't it?
COOL LEE: Peace, war is over. I knew the situation would take care of itself.
JENNIFER: I'm not falling for any of that rhetoric that we've handed sovereignty back over to Iraq. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and their puppet President still want to rake in profits, so this thing is far from over. They're just trying to counter the headlines of the Michael Moore film doing so well at the box-office.
SKULL MADISON: I hate to be a pessimist, but I don't see any upside at all to this handover policy. We need to stay and occupy Iraq for at least the next hundred years. At any rate, I know Bush knows what he's doing. He hasn't failed yet. Best President of my lifetime so far. Trust me, we're not leaving Iraq.
COLLEGE STUDENT: The more we jerk around with the Middle East the more terrorism is going to expand. That's why we need to vote this moron out of the White House. I started out supporting Nader, but now I realize he's the reason Bush got in, so I'm switching to Kerry. Even though they're both from Skull and Bones, they both support the war and the Patriot Act, I still gotta believe anyone is better than Bush.
BRUTUS JONES: The President has done a brilliant job every step of the way. I'm pretty sure he's got a few more tricks up his sleeve, just wait and see.
COUNSELOR JENNINGS: I do not support the war no matter what the strategy is, short term or long term. The only political figure that seems to see the big picture is Dennis Kucinich. Let's get the U.S. out and the U.N. in.
BOUNCER MIKE: Bush has lived up to his word again. He promised months ago we would hand control back over to Iraq by the end of June. He even did it a few days earlier just to throw off the terrorists. In my opinion Bush is one of the smartest Presidents we've ever had.
GOOFBALL GREG: Wow, we did it. We won another war - again. That's now twice in a year, plus we captured Saddam. It's almost like a threepeat when you think about it. I guess that's a big pie in the face to all those protesters who were hoping we would lose. They should all be tried for war crimes.
GURU DION: This is all playing out to be dumber than the last Bush who was President. The only one benefitting from any of this is Iran. It's going to take a long time for Iraq to be stable when you consider the country is composed of Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds - three groups that all hate each other. The photo op and the handing over sovereignty are just meaningless gestures and more weak attempts at fooling the American people and the world into thinking Bush is doing a good job to cover up the fact that he is completely floundering.
